Freedom Hill Horse Rescue

Some specific benefits of Equine Assisted/Educational Programs:

  • Improves communication and teamwork skills
  • Encourages the development of healthy relationships
  • Provides problem solving and success over obstacles
  • Builds confidence and self-esteem
  • Provides a unique structure for family therapy

In this program, we work with participants to address their certain needs by setting up ground activities with our horses. This is an unique approach to growth and learning where people learn about themselves and others while participating in these activities with the horse.

How do horses play a role in our Equine Assisted and Educational Programs?

  • Working with large and powerful animals helps participants overcome fear. Accomplishing tasks involving horses, in spite of this fear, creates confidence and helps the people deal with other intimidating situations in life.
  • Like humans, horses have distinct personalities. They provide opportunities for metaphorical learning. Using metaphors is an effective technique when working with even the most challenging individuals or groups.
  • Horses can mirror human body language. Participants learn if they change their behavior, the horses will respond differently.
  • Horses are honest, which makes them especially powerful messengers. Having interactive sessions with horses allows us to "see" where the problems are and find ways to solve them. The focus is on doing, being active in-the-moment, and finding solutions that provide faster, more permanent change.
  • Adding horses to the equation, makes the process more engaging.
  • Horses provide powerful opportunities to address social skills, communication issues, and other dynamics necessary for healthy, meaningful relationships.

Horses have a tremendous way in helping individuals through life's obstacles and are amazing teachers. The lessons learned through these activities with the horses can be applied to real life.  Participants also learn how to communicate with horses, how to read their body language and practice safe horsemanship, as well as the basics of horse care.

We will continually be offering many new programs. Check back periodically for more information.
