Freedom Hill Horse Rescue

Hello There! We are Pretty Girl and Mellony, both Thoroughbred mares approximately 15 and 16 years old. I have the blaze (Pretty Girl) and Mellony has the Star. We should probably go by Thelma and Louise since we are a pretty wild pair of girls. We are very responsive to the promise of food! We are very healthy since we have been able to play freely for all of our life here in Upperco, Md. Our owner is over 80 years old and his heart would really be put at ease if someone would take us home. We come with 150 bales of hay and 30 bags of feed. We require a experienced handler since we haven’t been put to work. It’s important that we find a home together as soon as possible. We can be trained to your skill set or we can be free to play on and on.

Hi There!! I’m Elijah. As you can see, I am a strikingly handsome 15 year old QH gelding that stands at 15H. I am a super boy. Mom says I’m the barn favorite because I am so gentle and respectful as well as an easy keeper. I load on the trailer and I do not have any bad habits at all. I love to be groomed and I am barefoot with regular farrier trims. My military family is moving North and I prefer warmer weather. I have mild lameness issues due to occasional laminitis and have had navicular changes in my x-rays, so I have not been ridden since 2013. I was always a good boy under saddle in my better days. I would be more than happy to beautify your pasture and give you unlimited love. Please bring me home with you soon!!!! You can contact my mom at   I am currently located in Oakton, Va.

Hello from Houston, Tx.   My name is Bartoli and I am a 17 year old Belgian Warmblood gelding that stands 16.2H. Obviously, I am a super handsome boy. Mom says I’m a very nice boy with no  bad habits. I’d make a great therapeutic horse. I load on the trailer and I don’t buck, rear, kick or bite. I do have Uveitis and have lost sight in one eye. That hasn’t stopped me and I can still be ridden. I’m up to date on all of my shots and I go barefoot. I’m a big strong boy and require an experienced rider. I do not behave badly, I’m just big and strong. If you’d like to take me home with you, contact my mom at

Hello to my lovely humans! I am Seasin. I am a very classy 21 year old Standardbred, Bay, Mare that stands at 15.3H. I am so wonderful that I was rescued from a kill pen in 2017! I’m currently in a foster home and I need a permanent home since my foster family's farm is for sale. I have a impressive race record and pedigree: SEASIN (SH493, M) [ 1997 , P, 5, 1:52.3S $289,610 ] MERGERS COUSIN - HALF SEAS OVER - STRIKE OUT. I have nerve damage in my shoulder and need a home where I can relax and enjoy my retirement. My front leg swings slightly due to my nerve damage, but it doesn’t bother me at all. I’m a very good girl with wonderful manners. I get along with all my horse pals and humans. My temperament is rated as a 3 and I load on a trailer, no kick, bite, buck or rear. I’m up to date on all of my vaccines, dental, Coggins and regular hoof trims. Please bring me home so I may bring you happiness, joy and love. Please contact Dawn at

We cannot always take in every horse that needs a new home. But we do strive to help any way that we can. The below horses are available for adoption by their owners. Please contact owners listed for information on the horses listed on this page.  They are not at the rescue.

Please contact or the contact info on the posting for more information on a particular horse. Thank you!

Note: FHHR assumes no responsibility for the animal, we are only assisting with placement as we can. Due to the overwhelming requests to assist owners with their horses, we must limit our assistance to Southern Maryland.

Pretty Girl & Mellony

Hi, I’m Hobbs (Not Just A Hobby). I am a 13 y.o., TB Cross, Gelding that stands at 16.1H. I used to jump huge 3’ fences with my adult amateur rider. I tore my left hind suspensory and it hurt a lot. I’m feeling better now since I had lots of TLC, but I will not be able to carry weight again. I’m still lame at the Trott, but sound at the walk. I had to retire early, but I had a great time. I get along really well with all other horses. Mares, Geldings and Foals. I love attention from my humans!! I would love to show you how well I do my neck stretches since they are so fun. I’m really good at that. Did you ever read Black Beauty? Now is your chance to have a real live one pretty up your pasture!! I am up to date on my vaccines, Coggins, dental and farrier. I would love to go to a very loving home. I'm currently located in Upperville, Va. You can get in touch with my human mom at

Introducing Rocket!

Rocket clips, bathes, loads in the trailer, no kick, no bite, no buck and no rear.  He’s timid with other horses and will not fight for his share.
